Oliver trying soy ice cream. Yummy! Posted by Hello

Finally it looks like we may be getting somewhere

Oliver woke up again covered in barf this morning after several nights of not throwing up. Why?
Thankfully we had an appointment with his pediatrician today. She finally listened. We pushed the fact that he did not have the flu and no one else had it either. She listened and is going to put the thumbs to the GI doctors to take a closer look at him now and figure out once and for all what is going on.
Oliver has lost some weight again, so we go back next week to weigh in and hopefully she will have some more answers for us about his case. The ball is in motion, thank God.

On a holiday

I saw Santa and his wife today filling up their RV at the Superstore Gas Bar. Lazy bum that he is didn't even get out of the mammoth cruiser. He made Mrs. Clause get out and fill it up. She stood and waited in line by the pump while someone was in front of them filling their car, and she certainly was not spreading any Christmas cheer if you know what I mean. I suppose since they are off duty this time of year, they are allowed to be a little less jolly, but honestly, you never saw such a sight.
As the Mrs. was about to fill the giant beastly vehicle, Santa opens his door and yells out at her "Make sure it's diesel!" "It is diesel" she shouted back. Both spoke in such gravelly voices, you would swear the jolly act each year was a farce.

Having a good day so far...

Finally a little sit down after hitting the bottom of the laundry basket today. Hurray! 12 loads later. How do we accumulate that much laundry? The beds are all freshly stripped and re-made (although Oliver gets his done almost every night anyways). Nothing like the smell of fresh clean laundry. MMMMMM!
I have been out and about running errands and even ferried some old people to Walmart. Our supper is made for tonight -sesame chicken- and I have tossed in a loaf of bread. Today is a good day. I love these kinds of days where I get lots done.
Oliver was in to the hospital on Thursday night, and they couldn't really help us. Basically they told us to wait until we saw our GI doctor again and deal with the barfing in the meantime. They did do one thing for us though and that was increase Oliver's medication dosage, and last night he did not throw up! So maybe things are starting to work.
We had a lovely Easter. My niece came in from Vancouver and visited with us for a while which was great, Emma can't stop talking about her. Also we had a dinner Sunday night with our new friends and they bought treats for our kids! How kind. I love it when new friends feel like old friends.
Anyways, that's all I know for now. I don't want to stay on the computer too long and get comfy. Must keep cleaning.

Update on my frustration

Oliver has throw up several times the last few days. I called the GI specialist this afternoon only for them to say they just don't know what to tell me anymore and they will get back to me. If Oliver worsens and starts to loose massive amounts of weight again then I need to take him in to the hospital. So for now they have told me not to feed him solid foods and up his bottle intake. My heart is breaking for this little guy. I don't want him to hurt anymore. Putting him through the torture of eating is mean to him and me. How long can he go on like this? There must be a solution. I am not asking for any, just venting here. Thanks for letting me get that out.

Sometimes my mouth is a loose cannon. I pay for this, and I am trying to wash my mouth out, but really it is worth my potty mouth sometimes. Oliver was playing with a toy that had obviously run out of batteries tonight. Emma in all her whit and charm pipes up and says: "Damn it, Daddy can fix it!"

MMMMM smells like chocolate in here

If your middle name is David and your last name ends in M you will be the winner of my fudge Saturday night. Call me if you think you are right.

As I wash yet another set of sheets and blankets filled with Oliver's barf, I am thankful for this little man. Thankful that he has filled our lives with such heartache and joy. He has made us grow so much over this last year. He makes everyone love him. His adoring smile, funky little gestures, quirky attitude. All the work is worth it when he looks up into my eyes and blinks his long eyelashes and silently tells me he loves me.
Today we found out that Oliver is still moderately deaf. Even after the tubes. I was disheartened this morning because before the tube surgery they had told me the chances of his hearing recovery he would have a 90% chance. Those are big numbers.
Now after sitting with this information for a while, I am okay.
I was putting in Oliver's laundry and thinking how thankful I am to have him. The ears we can deal with.

Okay it's out

I have a job. This new lady Collette that I met is inventing a job for me at church to get me out and about in the community. That is my good news. Hope it makes you as excited as me. Plain and simple. I can't wait. I am still waiting for her to call me back with the exact job. Will keep you updated.

Both kids?

Yes, both kids have ear infections right now. They are getting over them though. Oliver's is draining nicely out the side of his head. Something I have never seen before. It looks like a giant snot ball coming out. Disgusting.

He barfed again last night. Steve was giving me a break from putting him to sleep and all of a sudden he came and got me to tell me that Oliver had barfed again. I was so mad too, because he'd had such a good supper. It had not even digested though.

I will tell you the rest of my good news secret story when the kids have all cleared up and I have the chance to think straight. Right now I am typing with Emma on my lap and she is trying to rock with me.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Okay, here is half of it

On Wednesday Steve and I went to visit a lady at one of our churches. Her name is Collette, insignificant really, but there it is. She wanted to know how she could help us. She knows our story all the way to Hamilton and back and how sick Oliver is.
She helped us in many ways. One way is by PAYING for us to take Oliver to go see a Naturopath. We are so excited about this, as it is a new pair of eyes on him in addition to all the help he already has.

Here's what the news isn't

We're not pregnant.
We're not moving.
Sorry to disappoint.

If only you could have heard the devastation in her voice this evening as Oliver dumped her crayons all over the floor. My darling Emma had just finished cleaning up all the bits and pieces of crayons and Oliver (the destroyer) took the bucket and turned it upside down gleefully watching every last bit fall to the floor. The shriek that came from Emma was enough to break glass I am certain (wouldn't know, there is nothing really breakable in our house anymore).
I had to console Emma for hours after the little dickens destroyed her masterful cleaning up. Oliver knew what he had done too. He is a sneaky one. I am going to have to watch him closely as time goes by. Cheeky one!

Wishing and hoping Oliver would take a crap so he would go to bed. His usual routine is that he has one before bed, and he won't go to bed unless he goes. For some reason tonight he is restless in my arms and that is the only reason I can figure. Go already Oliver!

Good times

Gone are the days where I don't leave the house without showering in the morning, now I am lucky if I brush my teeth. Ok, I do make time for that, but showering is a luxury. I am always doing laundry, but can never seem to find a clean shirt for myself, why is that?
What is a sleep in day? Five am wake up time for this job.
Coffee is the only thing that keeps me alive, nothing less. I am so tempted to put Emma back into pull-ups at bedtime because she wets the bed every other night. Frustrating. I swear these darn crayon bits mate in the night because I find them everywhere, even after I clean up. They jump out of the box and get on the floor always under my feet, and chairs and...everything.
How do the kids get so dirty? I bathe them. I really do. The dirt just clings to them, and they get a musty smell after being outdoors for a while, yuck.
Every day is one day more and as they get older the challenges will be no less, just different.
One day soon Oliver will be out of bottles, and Emma will be done peeing the bed....I hope. That is our next milestone and we take it one day at a time.
For now, we have fun going to the park, and preschool, playing, colouring, reading, dancing, singing and just having fun.

How great it was to go out on Saturday night and take the kids with us. We went over to a friend's place, and they have children. It was great fun. Very eventful. I could barely keep track of what was going on around the dinner table as there were five children and four adults all going at once. It was truly wonderful though to be in the company of friends.
Margie, remember the good old days when I was afraid of children? Not anymore! Well, okay... maybe a little, but these kids were great entertainment-so enjoyable.
The big icing to my night was when my hostess offered me some cookies that looked like the ones I had given her as a treat a few days before. "Yummy!" I thought. Wrong-O.
These cookies tasted like paper and dirt and dryness all at one time. She then proceeded to tell me that the cookies were made from beans and crap and healthy garbage that is really not supposed to be eaten at all. BEANS? In COOKIES? Seriously. Come on now. I know you were trying to get skinnier, but this is not the way!
I am sabotaging this woman the best way I know how. She is too thin already and I keep making her fattening things. She needs to enjoy life the way the rest of us do, with a thickened waist line. Okay, I know I am a sicko. But really nobody should look that good after three kids, nobody.

White girl can dance!

I could not explain this in words, you really have to see it to believe it. Is she a superstar or what?

Blessed are the paperwork doers for they will be blessed with funding for formula.
Blessed are the barf cleaners for they will have healthy babies one day.
Blessed are the cooks for they will be hugged by peanut butter arms.
Blessed are the bedtime readers for they will be snuggled and cuddled up close.
Blessed are the laundry doers for they will be surrounded by freshness.
Blessed are the chauffeurs for they will get driven someday.
Blessed are the shoulders for rocking for they calm the storms.
Blessed are the hands that heal for they bring hope to the frightened.

All over Steve. Neck to toe. I can not help but think it was my fault. We changed things up a bit and Steve was putting Oliver to bed last night. I can not help but think if we had just stayed on with our usual routine, he would not have barfed. Neurotic, I know, but when he has thrown up so many times, you begin to think it is the weather after a while.
Undigested food covered poor Steve. I barely knew where to begin with the cleaning. A howling baby and a sputtering Steve. Drip, drip, drip, drip. Towels, cloths. This was a monumental amount, thank goodness it was not in his bed.
I later discovered that I had forgotten to give him his medicine to close his stomach yesterday morning. It truly was my fault. Crap.

Had a friend over for dinner last night. Good times. Emma asked why she wasn't sleeping over... Posted by Hello

One man's pain is another's pleasure

Okay, I know I should not be laughing at Steve, but this was so funny. I am laughing as I post this. We were on our way home from picking up Emma from preschool and Steve was wearing sandles...bad idea since there is still ice everywhere.
I was just a chugging it home, because I was hungry and supper was ready and well, it was a little nippy out, plus I wanted to get a little sweat going so I could feel good about getting some exercise.
Steve was just walking along with his hands in his pockets and slipped a little, did not fall, but made me laugh though the way he jerked his body.
We walked a little bit further down the road and all of a sudden Steve was not beside me anymore...he was on the ground. I heard a huge crack, and thought he'd smacked his head, but I was laughing so hard I could barely get out the words to ask him if he was okay.
Oh how my sides ache from the laughter.
Steve just rolled in the mud, slush and ice for a while as the passersby looked on. We made it home and found the missing skin on his back, but he is otherwise okay.

"I want to eat them!" Posted by Hello
These kids kept me busy all night, but they sure had fun. Posted by Hello

Oliver's supper

Tonight he ate....half a perogie and half a tube of chap stick. Yum.

Old and New

Last night was a good night. If you read my husband's blog, you will know that I was allowed to get out for a bit. This is a rare treat, as Steve usually works evenings.
I went over to my new friend's house with the intent to scrapbook. I left early so I could take some pictures of the sunset and some other neat things I found. I did indeed find some great things.
An old friend!
I saw this friend walking with her son, who I have not seen for ages! I slowed the car and parked it and nearly attacked them. We were right by her house, so she invited me in and I stayed for half an hour.
I asked her if she got really fat. Yes, I could do this with this girl, as only old friends can do. No, she was pregnant! (I figured this, but was joking with her about being fat)
Such a good time I had. I love meeting up with old friends.
Then I hopped over to my new friend's house and "scrapped". Well talked mostly. I barely got anything done. Okay. I got nothing done, but I had a great time chatting and just hanging out. New friends are great.

People watching

It is funny how many people do not make eye contact. They keep their heads lowered and barely miss walking into poles, just to avoid human contact.
I had to mail a parcel today and while in the parking lot I noticed how many rich women went through the McDonald's drive through in their fancy schmancy cars. I laughed at one point, because my window was down and I heard one woman ask for extra mayo!
Every single older person in the post office paid with cash and two of them paid all in change. Funny.
I thought I saw Kevin Coghill today and thought of them and their new baby as I was out and about. Why don't they have blogs?
I got a call from "Lillian" from doctor's office today. What? Who, what doctor? Is it one of my doctors or Oliver's doctors? I don't know which one to call back. It's a mystery.

Gee thanks

It's funny how when you meet up with someone after not seeing them for a long time you don't ever say "Boy have you packed on the pounds". Well I had the 'compliment' today of "Well dear, you have sure kept off the weight." Um, thank you? What do you say to that. I laughed and took it to be a compliment, but thought....if this person doesn't say anything about how great I look next time, does that mean I have started to gain weight again? We are such strange creatures. What ever happened to "Hi, I've missed you" or "How have you been?".
