Up bright and early again...

Steve was doing some kind of Flamenco dancing in bed so I decided to get out and come on down.I now see why back in the day, people slept in different beds. Oh well, at least he keeps the bed warm.
Yesterday turned out okay after all. We went for a visit to Grammy's house and I took off running to the Fabricland down the way. For some reason we are not allowed to bring kids in there-and if you must bring them be prepared for mean ladies with no patience . Plus the signs on the door say to keep your child with you and hold onto them at all times-which is impossible if you have an armload of fabric!
Sorry rant there.
I got so much stuff for .99 cents a metre and $1.50 a metre. Nothing more expensive than that. Plus patterns on sale for .99 cents as well! When I got to the checkout I braced myself, but was pleasantly surprised to find it very reasonable.
Emma saw the bag and said "Fabric!!"
She got a sewing machine from Grandma Joanne this Christmas and is sooooo excited about that.
She could not wait for me to open the bag and show her all the fabric. She knew what colours would go with what and that the filling was for blankets for the homeless. I should have enough now for more than 10 blankets or so....we'll see. Thank you for all the donations so far. I have cut most of it into squares already and it's almost time to put it togther.
This is turning into a very boring post. Sorry.
Sarah-if you'd like to get together that would be great. I think things are starting to wind down. I hope. Although Emma's birthday is coming and I am a bundle of nerves about it.
I have all the loot bags gathered, just need to assemble.
Kirsten I hope you are feeling better-that is kinda gross ;)
Mike and Shelley I forgot to send the parcel with Lenore. Oops. They are coming back on Thursday to get it though.
Evey I got your card and love the matching sweaters! Cute.

Having a break...

Since I have been awake since 3ish this morning (because Oliver was up having bad dreams and Steve got up with him and I was jostled etc and could not get back to sleep) I decided to swing on down to the YMCA and put the kids in the play group while I come in and "exercise".
Driving here was fun.
The van was covered in snow and I had to brush it off. We have an extender arm for our brush thingy, but that doesn't really help when I am only five feet tall! I could not reach the whole window of the van and that made for rather good times driving down here.
Mostly I don't mind being short, but today I sure did- how frustrating trying to get that darn ice and snow off.
Oh well. We made it, and I was smart enough to park in a sunny spot so the rest of the ice would hopefully melt while we were in here.

Gone and done it

I poured cereal into my coffee this morning. It's going to be a great day.

Still going...

Finally I can upload these pictures. Blogger was being stupid yesterday- I guess it was probably because everyone else and their dog wanted to upload their Christmas pics too. Oh well. Now is fine. We did not have truckloads of gifts, but sure had bags and bags of trash here. Gosh. I took out so many trips to the dumpster. They put way too much wrapping on things-it's crazy.
We had a great day. Already said that.
Great Grandma was a riot. She is getting on in years and was sitting enjoying herself in one of the easy chairs. We had taken Oliver's train sets over to play with and the adults were sitting around watching it go around. There were some balls that go in one compartment on the train and Grandma asked what cousin Andrew was doing. He said "I'm just playing with the balls grandma."
"What? Oh. Don't be ashamed now of playing with your balls."
Awesome. Grandma is awesome.
She really meant to say "don't be ashamed of playing with a toy". Just to clear that up. She is not a dirty old lady. She is FUNNY though.
Steve's cousin Karen took the kids and read to them all night and also took care of them during meal time which was a real treat. Woo hoo.
I got to relax and everything. Nice.
Today my parents are feeling Christmas is coming once again. Hurray.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I already took down the tree and vacuumed and cleaned and and and it looks good in here. Oh well. It will be fun. Plus they will bring my neice Lenore from Vancouver (Family of Five's daughter). I can't wait to see her!
I guess that's all for now.
Evey-watch the mail....

What a day yesterday

I say that in a good way, not an exasperated sigh kind of way. Yesterday was great. Not as wound up for us as I thought. It worked out great that my parents were sick and couldn't come into town for the day because I think that would have been just too much for the kids. Overall they were pretty well behaved and only at the very very end of the day when we were putting on our shoes was there an issue-but by then that was to be expected.
Everyone loved their gifts which was a relief because there is always that little bit of apprehension. Steve MADE me the loveliest set of candle holders you ever did see on this here earth. They are wood and square and and and just perfect. I could not have found a better set in a store. They fit right into our home with their craftyness.
Emma made a handprint wallhanging with a poem at school. Yes it is on my wall already. The poem says something about how soon the handprints will not be on the wall anymore etc so enjoy. Yes enjoy.
I have pics to upload. Will do in a while. I have to find the camera first. I have the cable to connect it, but no camera. Maybe I took it upstairs..anyhow will find it later.

Emma met me this morning with "Good morning Mom-Happy Kwanza!!!".
Where does she get this stuff?

Enjoying the day...but it feels SOOOO long

Why is this day so long? I just want to go to the candle service at church and sing and be merry. The kids are out with Steve and the house is quiet. Which I am enjoying, but twiddling my thumbs around here. I need to be doing my hair, because I never do it any other time so the least I can do is spend a couple of hours on it today. I did at least brush it so far which is progress.
As I was putting Emma to bed last night, we were chatting about what we would be doing on Christmas day and I explained how we'd have special crepes for breakfast and all sorts of yummyness and she asked "Can we have your special purple syrup?"
I don't know how she remembers such things, but I saved a jar of saskatoon syrup from the batch I made in August so we could have some for Christmas. Yum. Emma is looking forward more to the breakfast than the gift part I think. Funny girl. She is so special.
Oliver is in his own world.

May God bless you this Season and always. Happy Christmas to you all.

On the agenda for today...

Clean out my freezer. Colour my hair. Clean the toilets again (even though I JUST cleaned them). Sing and dance like nobody is watching. Steve is helping someone move. Sucky deal. What a wretched time to move. Make some eats for Christmas morn-the ones I made got eaten somehow.....hmmmm.
Maybe sit and read my new Today's Parent Magazine that someone gave me for Christmas.
Oh right and head out to someone's hockey game this afternoon. Woo hoo! That should be great fun! Well, I better get moving and get Steve out of bed.

I don't normally go out at night, but this was important

I made a friend. We chatted for quite a while. It was nice. She has a lovely new baby girl, so full of smiles. She is also a stay home mother so we have that in common. There is more to it, but that is all I will say on here for the sake of privacy. would be nice if you could pray for her and her daughter.

Oliver's words of wisom for the day:

"Momma cows are girls and horses are boys right?"

Sharing girl.....

Emma brought home two treats yesterday for Steve and I that she hoarded from her class. She wrapped them up and brought them home so we could have some of the goodness that she had at her party at school yesterday. In Steve's words "She didn't learn that from me!".
No Steve she didn't.

Heading off to bed....

It's been a full day and am I ever glad Emma is done school for a few weeks. Tomorrow we are going to try to make our way over to McD's before 11am and get breakfast because I have coupons for free egg mcmuffins. Yummy. So good as a cleansing.
I think we are going to Zoolights tomorrow night after supper. It depends how tired the kids are after all the fun we will be having all day.
Time has flown and I can not believe another year is almost gone. Unreal.
Had a nice surprise from someone today-a gift box of goodies from The Body Shop. Thanks S!
What a treat.
Have a wonderful day! Love you.

Out of the mouths of babes

Dear Jesus,
"Thank you that Mummy got us some soft toilet paper...."

Miranda asked for some pics....

This is what I have been doing. The basket is a bed for Giovani-a boy Cabbage Patch. Why do they come with such funky names? The cloud pants are Oliver's and somehow I have not yet made a top...although it is cut out. The dresses are Emma's and Krystal's (her Cabbage patch doll). The pink jammies in the right corner are Emma's and the top blue rose ones are her too. She saw them in a picture and asked me to make them for her. So that's it. Posted by Picasa

Fa la la la la la la la la

Emma is still sleeping. I guess she is pooped out from yesterday and all the activity. She is really not wanting to go to school these last few days. Only a few more....Thursday is her last day, but that seems like so far away to her.
Yesterday was a good fun day because when Emma came home from school I called my mom at work and we opened the Christmas boxes from her over the phone. It was nice for my mom to have the reaction of the kids as they opened gifts since she lives in Vancouver and we live in Calgary. Oliver could barley verbalize his excitement- but Emma sure took over for him. "Look Oliver look whatcha got!".
Thank you mom! That was fun to have Christmas yesterday-and it was a great pacifier for Oliver because he has been wanting something to open for days now because his wicked mother has put the gifts under the tree.
Last night we had a good cuddle time a read Elf in our bed with the kids. Why we have been trying to cram ourselves into their beds all this time is beyond me.
Tomorrow I am supposed to see Jenn and her baby Grayson who is down from Grande Prairie. Yay.
*On a side note if anyone has any old sheets, towels, jeans, shirts, clothes or anything of fabric nature to get rid of please send it this way. I am making patchwork blankets for some people who really need them.

Been busy...

I think most of the sewing is done...however I keep adding to the list, so really it is never fully finished. I would like to do so much more before the big day, but I'm not gonna make myself crazy.

We attended Emma's school Christmas concert. Sob. Batteries died. Ha ha ha. But we did get some pics.

Went out to the Light Festival in Airdrie after swimming lessons on Saturday. Tapped ourselves too thin and by then end of the night we were so cranky. Just doing too much.

Sunday The kids slept in a bit and we just watched movies and played polly pockets all day while I stitched up a storm in the basement and later made fudge.

Today....we are making smashed potato stew and I still have the urge to sew a bit more...although I know I will have some time after Christmas where I will be spinning my wheels needing something to do.

Oh...and I need to plan out something to eat for Christmas brunchy stuff for my parents and us to eat.

Friday, December 15, 2006

I'm busy please leave a message ......

I'll be back later. Sewing today. I think I am in the home stretch unless someone calls me and asks me for anything else today....perhaps I won't even cook supper. Just a thought.

Oh yes the torture is sweet revenge for all those nights when I have had to get up with them...

Yes the gifts are wrapped and under the tree-just to torture my kids. I am meanest mother of the year. Truly I just don't want to be up all night Christmas Eve wrapping. So now I endure endless "Moooooom, may I open my gifts?" from Oliver.
He is easily diverted with other things for now. It is rather funny. Hmm he oddly enough just asked again.
Cruel. Yes I am. Oh yes.

I worried for nothing...although

They did leave the front door unlocked. The nerve! Geez.
Anyways, I suppose everything is fine and they enjoyed our mess in the basement. They left no note or anything. The only way we knew they were here was by the door being unlocked. Which irritates me in a way like you don't even know.

I'm Out...

It's Wednesday and the Lady comes today. I am trying to be out when she comes, but if you have children and know how slowly they move my plan my not work. I have cleaned. Steve has cleaned. The house is good enough for inspection....except in the basement. Patterns and fabric is everywhere. I will not move it and chance it being lost or ruined. I don't care, but I do.
I am letting it go I am letting it go I am letting it go.

"I want the cowboy movie Mom, no not that one with the horses, the one with the singing cowboys..."

We borrowed some movies from the library this weekend. The Black Stallion, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, and Indian In The Cupboard. We have yet to see the Indian in the cupboard and I have seen My Fair Lady before, the kids have not gotten to it yet because they are so in love with Oklahoma. The kids were so bored with the Black Stallion which was a bit sad because it is a classic, but maybe when they are older. For now they will dance around the living room with me singing all the words to every song in the movie for Oklahoma. My favorite is when Emma started singing "I'm just a girl who cain't say No!"

It's been a busy weekend. Steve starred as the baby Jesus in our church Christmas play. Then yesterday we had church, a birthday party, and a visit from my parents who came to town from Drumheller. The kids went to bed at 6pm they were SO tired and we followed shortly after. I had a whoppin' headache most likely from stress (which I have never really had before). We have an inspection this week from our unit manager because they are selling the complex. Grrr. What a time to have an inspection!

Did anyone see America's Funniest Videos last night? I saw a clip with kids opening a pinata that was filled with veggies. Oh my gosh. I nearly peed the bed. I laughed so hard. What a mean mother! The kids were so mad.

Happy Birthday Miranda!!!!!!!!!!!

A night out

I went to the Zoo last night without my kids. Yes I did feel some guilt, but it quickly vanished. The lights were so pretty and I was with a friend. It was a good time out because I do not often go out without my children and both of us girls could actually relax and enjoy the sights. We even got free stuff of course! Travel mug, hot chocolate and ornament-oh ya I had the tickets free too. Yay! So glad she happened to call me. I like my friend we had some side splitting laughs. It was fun. Thanks lady!

Why do Cabbage Patch Kids have such big heads?

Gosh! Anyways....I finished a dress last night for "Krystal" Emma's cabbage patch doll. And it matches one of the other dresses I made for her a while ago. Awwwww. Gag! My mother used to do the same thing for me when I was little, so I guess that is where I get it from. In fact I still have one of the dresses that my Cabbage Patch and I had a set of. The dress I have now would fit Emma, but it's about ready to fall apart. I was showing it to Emma the other day when she was in the basement 'helping' me sew. She was in awe that I was ever a little girl. Funny how little minds work.
While doing my errands yesterday I could hear this adorable little "Arrrg!" coming from the backseat every so often- Oliver is now offically a pirate as he insisted on getting a black eyepatch for his eye.
Got all my parcels posted yesterday. I am so happy. I made sure to spread some extra cheer to the ladies working behind the counter telling them how great they were doing etc (darn it I should have taken some goodies-oh well) because I could hear or rather feel the man behind me snorting down my neck as he was waiting. He was SO impatient. Muttering about the service and how bad things were and Christmas this and ba humbug that. Gee it is just early in the season! What is this man to do?

*Oh and the reason for the title is because I did not have a pattern for the doll clothes. I just have to guesstimate. The head is not in proportion to the body. Otherwise it would be easy for the clothes to slip over the head. So I had to be very careful to make a big enough opening without it looking stupid. brings new challenges: More dresses, Oliver's boy cabbage patch clothes, some accessories like purses and hats and whatever else I can dream up for both dolls. Plus treats for Emma's concert. Her Christmas concert. Does anyone have a video camera? And yes they call it Christmas concert, not Holiday celebration. Nice.

Okay I am going now. Have a good day.

I am such a nerd

Last night I started a new Christmas project. Because all my shopping is done I have "free" time to do things. Ha ha. Sort of anyways.
I figured Emma's dolls could use some new clothes. Why? Because really I am a sucker.
Dolls are tiny. At least I don't have man hands.

Brown paper packages...

Two down how many to go? I am going to the post office today and I am hoping to get everything OUT today. Hoping, but realistically I do not think it will happen. Please do not laugh at the parcels you receive this year because I am making them VERY flat. A little know fact is that if they can fit through the mail slot they are a lot less expensive.

*To Family of Five I am sending yours home with Lenore as it is soooooo heavy.

Grammy asked for a new picture of the boy....

So here is his new look.
I think he is rather cute.

Dear Self,

Please, please please stop eating corn. Esecially that spicy corn enchilada soup.
Thank You.

I love my husband, but that is gross

A few days ago I tried a new recipe for fudge-Maple pecan.
I gave all two and a half POUNDS of it to Steve because he is always crying how he never gets the fudge I make and I always give it away to everyone else. So he got the whole batch. Anyways.... he has almost consumed the whole entire thing. By himself.

The important thing is that I didn't swear in front of the children...just in my head

I guess it's time to dig out new oven mitts. I am sure I have some from our wedding still seven and a half years ago sitting in the basement. I have finally worn out my favourite ones. Ouch. Burned my hand while taking a pie out of the oven this morning. It was my last pie though so I am good now.
Spicy enchilada soup in the slow cooker for dinner and shep's pie pending. I think I will cook it tomorrow, finally I have learned my limits. I have six extra turkey pies if anyone needs dinner tonight.

Random Emmaness today "Hey handsome, want to dance with me?" She said to Oliver this morning.

Ready to give up......

My biggest and best pot has been sitting in the sink for WEEKS, yes weeks. I have been scrubbing it trying to get out the blackening on the bottom with no luck. Yes I have tried the tin foil trick and all the other remedies, but nothing is working. Someone was making....I don't even recall what. All I remember is him scrambling around going "fire fire fire!"
Yes indeed the pot - my best pot- was on fire on the stove. He was not aware the oil could catch fire. Anyways...I am torn. I do not want to toss it, but I also don't want my food tasting like burned yuck.
To redeem Steve though....he left me the van today and took the BUS. It is minus a thousand outside. So cold you will freeze in five minutes if your skin is exposed-at least that is what they say on the news. Our postman yesterday was so bundled up you could not even see that he was human, he even was wearing ski goggles overtop of his bella clava (or as Steve calls it baklava).

Oh the curiosity is killing me

There are gifts under my tree for the kids and they are not from me. Oliver put them under there once they arrived and neither him or Emma have touched them since. They know they have to wait until Christmas. I have a hard time waiting.

Saturday, November 25, 2006

How does she do it?

Emma that is....
A six flusher, and severe use of the plunger. I even felt the floor rumble as I dislodged the mass from the I know why my mother used to break things up with a chopstick first.

My Angel....

We are going to a party tonight and I was determined to make this dress for Emma today. I love having someone to make things for. This makes me happy. Posted by Picasa

Ultimately it's our choice-My rant that's been a brewin'

It is so much easier to just head across the road to McDonalds to get dinner when we are exhausted and the kids are cranky and crying for their supper, but lately we are trying to resist. It is not the smartest choice health wise or money wise.
We are determined to get out of debt. Lately I have been convicted more and more to tighten our spending around here. We are getting ahead in our bills and it feels so good. I want to stay ahead. So if it means not buying gifts for each other, or lesser gifts for other people then that is okay. This debt has been a thorn in our sides for so long now and I would like to just get rid of it.
We still have a long way to go but are seeing the light a bit now.
All that to say that we will not dig a deeper whole this Christmas. That is our choice.
The pressure is on though with all the commercials and advertisements everywhere "Jingle Jingle Buy our Stuff" Blah!
No wonder people get so stressed out. I feel a minute amount of inadequacy when all I have to give are baked goods and the commercials are screaming at me with the new Nintendo Wii thingamagig. Let me also say that I am thankful for any gifts we do receive but please DO NOT feel obligated to give us any. We are trying to instill non-greediness in our kids and Christmas is a tough obstacle. Plus, we know a lot of people feel the strain of the dollar too and do not want others to feel obligated to buy gifts for us just because it is Christmas.
This is turning into a cranky post and that is not what I intended...although I am not going to erase it. All I am trying to get out is that somewhere along the way I think Christmas was a little bit forgotten and Giftmas was put in place. This is sad because there is so much joy with families and friends. No one really cares if the plates and napkins match on your table or if your tree has a coordinating theme.

"Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree. In the eyes of children, they are all 30 feet tall."

~ Larry Wilde, author 'The Merry Book of Christmas'.

Who knew?

We have started playing family games with our kids this year and it is so much fun. The other night the kids asked for a different game than the tippit one we had been playing. So, knowing I had Pictionary Junior in the basement I thought for a moment and wondered if they were too small or not. The kids completely surprised us. We played and played and had so much fun!
Oliver even drew Steve Wiseman "Look I drawed Joel's Daddy!!" He said.
He was so excited.
Emma was drawing a horse and when Steve was not getting it, she decided to draw a man on it's back . Smart girl. Now they want to play every day though....

Gimme the doughnut lady or someone gets hurt

Friday night we went out to Sunridge Mall's Holiday kickoff and giant tree lighting. What a fun time of mayhem and craziness. But we are crazy so it's about par for the course. We started the evening off with free minty hot chocolate from Starbucks. So much whip cream blech! I gave mine all to Steve. Then we wandered around a bit in the masses and it's a bit of a blur....oh yes the tree was lit ooo ahhhh. Very pretty. I guess the mall just finished a $47 million dollar reno project. Can you imagine? The is nuts. It is a lovely new shiny looking mall, but gosh that is a lot of money. We saw Santa and when the kids saw him I nearly cried. Their faces-the excitement-that is something you just can't get with anything else.
The cap on the evening was the Krispy Kreme Lady. They were handing out doughnuts and Emma was trying to get one and every time she had her hand in the box the lady would turn away. So Emma up and clocked her one in the arm and grabbed a doughnut finally. Kids are so great.
Oh and I almost forgot the hordes of people running to get a FREE gift certicicate for a photo with Santa (you had to be in the first 500). We were in the first 20 people or so to get a certificate. Oh yeah. And we got three. Thank you very much. They were kind of stuck together and Emma was distracting the lady by pitching a fit. Far too many candy canes by this point.
You should have seen everyone running from the lit tree outside to centre court inside the mall. Steve picked up Oliver under one arm and the stroller in the other arm and yelled behind him "You comin'?"
I grabbed Emma and husstled it amid mom's with toddlers and strollers galore trying to get to centre court for this damn gift certificate. We made it and it was so much fun. I felt like I was in a race. Wish I had my camera. Maybe next week...we'll be at a different mall. Not telling were will have to wait for the report.

Another parcel for me

Yes indeed it was an exciting afternoon here at my house. I nearly hugged the delivery man as he gave me my package late today. What was inside you ask? My new Sonicare toothbrush-for FREEEEEEEE!!!!!! Came with two heads and a regarchable base and coupons for my friends so they can buy the Sonicare toothbrush too. My heart is beating so fast just thinking about my fancy new toothbrush, can't wait to use it.
If you would like some coupons let me know.

More free stuff in the mail. Oh yes. A $2.00 coupon for conditioner which we all know I will use in no time and a coupon for free Kids Tangle Tamer. Hurrah!

Found the most glorious thing yesterday at the grocery store

I have been wishin' and hopin' that someday someone would come out with lactose free chocolate milk because frankly the soya milk is not so palatable. Gag gag gag. Well while getting lactose free cream for me coffee yesterday I noticed lactose free chocolate milk in the dairy case. I bought some and couldn't wait to try it. They of course only make it in small bottles probably to see if it sells. Well, I will buy it. My Oliver Loves it! Finally a way to get calcium into him. We have been giving him those chocolate chewy calcium supliments (as directed from our doc) but I really don't like giving them to him. I would rather give him something sugary and fatty and well no it's really not that bad. Just like the crying chocolate milk in the commercials here, we have given choc milk a bad reputaion. I actually like the taste too, it tastes just as I remember chocolate milk being. Yum!

I kid you not, I actually saw Valentine's stuff out at the mall already. What is the world coming to? This is crazy.

I love it now that I am confined by the readers of my blog

I was so often careful because I did not want to offend or say this or that. We shall see how long it lasts. I do know that a lot of people feel restricted in what they write because of who reads. Which stinks because it is their own blog and a place to vent or write their prides and accomplishments. People should not be getting upset by this. Anyways that is my bit for this morning.

Margie....I Thank You

My kids have had hours of entertainment from the gifts you sent. Thank you. Oliver begs me daily for the bubbles and Emma constantly has the dolly in her hand and is reconfiguring her. How do you always know the right thing? You are amazing. By the way do not click on my old site as it has been taken over by junk and gives you junk on your computer. Seriously bad news. I found out the hard way.

The house is so quiet

The kids are in bed, Steve is out at music practice and I am alone. The laundry is going so I have a minute to sit. Sigh. What peace.
This is the first year I am thoroughly enjoying the season and not rushing rushing rushing like a chicken with my head cut off. Most years I just bustle on through and miss the greatness of it. This year I am starting early and savouring it all the way though. Our shopping is done so I don't have to mess with busy malls, which is nice. We can enjoy our family time together which I never really thought was important until now. Gasp.
Let me rephrase that. I knew it was important, I just didn't know how important. Time's a wasting! We need to spend it wisely. I don't mind missing out on a ladies night if it means spending time with my kids and husband. No I have not been hit in the head.
I battled and fought and struggled for so long to give up my 'fun' unattached life. The one where we could just get up and go. Sure it was free and less work, but missing something so vital, so.... rich. I had no idea. Thank God I woke up.

Whole bowl of weiners and beans for lunch....yum!

Yes that is what I had for lunch, don't knock it. It was delicious. Although I am feeling a bit bloated all of a sudden.
While walking Emma to school today we were talking about Santa and his beard. Uuuuuurrrrrp! Oh there now I feel better. Sorry about that. I am so disgusting. Where was I...oh yes Santa. Emma was telling me that Santa had a white beard and Daddy has a red beard (even though Steve has recently shaved his off). I asked her if Daddy would look like Santa when he got old and have a white beard too. She thought for a minute. "Ya when he is old and ugly-ish he could have a white beard" she said.

For some reason I can not get into the comments from the previous post so I will respond here to a few of you. I would love to eat pringles all day and watch soaps on tv, but I would feel pretty un-productive and lazy. So I actually do stuff around here. My kids do not nap anymore so I do not get any down time. I do get frustrated cleaning my house because the minute I clean it up, the kids have made it messy again. I have figured out a solution to this-make the kids clean up. So far so good.

Mom: I would have taken a picture of the spiderman blanket, but it is not as fancy as all of your quilts and stuff so I felt it didn't measure up. It's warm and covers the bed-I am happy with it.

Busy like a beaver

Finally, the spiderman blanket for Oliver's bed is finished. It has been laying out on the floor downstairs in my sewing area for weeks now and I just have not been able to get to it until Monday when I spent all afternnon on it. It weighs so much because I put two quilt battings in it to keep him extra warm and it is longer than five feet...I may just steal it for my bed because someone keeps taking my covers. I would have saved it for Christmas...but he needs it now. Well okay fine I just couldn't wait.
It looks so clean downstairs now that I have vacuumed and the space is not all covered with fabric debris. I hardly want to start anything new, but of course I will. Today Emma will be getting some funky fringe on her jeans. Should only take five minutes though and not much mess.
I can't believe Novemeber is half gone already. It seems like we just finished Christmas.
Oh well, no panic. If people don't get their homemade fudge and almond roca it's not the end of the world.

No....are you really rinsing your dentures in there?

I was at the mall today for a bit and while there I had the misfortune of having to use the facility. Yes indeed I did see a verrrrry old woman, no I should say ancient woman rinsing her dentures in the bathroom sink. Top and bottom. Hmmm. I couldn't help but smile as I washed my hands beside her-okay you got me I was chuckling to myself.
Also I have not blogged about free stuff in a while so my free stuff from the mailbox today was: $1.50 off Gardennay Soup
One Free Jar Of Nutella
One Free 3x20 gram Kinder Surprise
Not too bad today.

Conversations with Emma

"Mom it smells like egg farts in here!"
"No it doesn't"
"Yes-it smells just like daddy. Is he home already?"

It may sound lame, but we went sledding yesterday. I can remember a time when I was too good for that and would stand off to the side talking to my friends while all the other people around me would be going down the hill time and time again. We had so much fun yesterday afternoon. After lunch, we packed up the kids and took them down to an area not far from here in a good park and up and down the hill we went. For a while the kids raced the sleds by shooting them down the hill empty and watching them slide and crash into the bushes.
I would hang onto the back of Emma's sled and fly down that hill like a skier. Weeeeee what a time.
Oliver would always go down by himself. He would zip down that hill so fast and then come running up again with his sled wrapped around him ready to go again. Once he veered off into the bushes and almost got his eyes poked out, but he was okay.
Emma was distracted by the nearby park and played there for a while, overall a great afternoon.
I love family time together. We have started doing more and more together and I can see how much it means to the kids.

The thrill of the hunt....

So we went back yesterday to Old Navy and even are considering going back again today because they keep putting out new stuff. It has been so long since we all had new clothes that it is very tempting, especially at these insane prices.
Steve did give the breakdown of everything on his blog the average price of our items turned out to be $5 something like that.
It was cheaper than shopping that any of those consignment shops like Sproutz Kids or whatever that I have been going to to get clothes for the kids. I just can't justify spending $50 otherwise on jeans for Emma when she will outgrow then so fast.
We blew all our grocery money for the next...I don't know how long, but at least we'll be warm.
Ha ha. Glad that all our Christmas shopping is done already and I don't have to worry about money for that.
You should have seen the craziness the women created at every sale table, stand, rack. They were swarming and not getting out of the way. I had to climb over (remember I am only 5 feet tall) a few women to get to some stuff and grab hold for my life because they were taking things from other people's hands. It was great!
We ended up getting 5 pairs of jeans for Emma, two skirts for her, one maternity jean for a friend, 2 pants for me, one pant for Steve, jackety blazer thing for Steve, 8 shirts for Oliver.....and I forget what else. The maternity jeans for our friend were regularly $44.50 on sale for $.49.
If anyone wants it, I did get a $10 coupon for use in December. We are done there...except for maybe today and that is IT. So if you want the coupon let me know.
Oh, and do you know what I find is so helpful? Maybe I just got lucky, but the girl in the change area was actually doing her job and getting me extra sizes and different stuff. It was great. So often lately we have had terrible service because of the labour shortage (I am guessing) in our city.

Sale-Old Navy-Must-Go

Emma was groaning this morning because she has a bellyache. Maybe she just needs to go poo-that is my theory. Her thoughts on the subject are that she ate too much garbage yesterday. Well, why would I argue with that? I have driven the point home so many time about moderation and how we can not eat bags and bags of sugary candy for supper(and she doesn't she only have a few nibbles) because it will make our teeth rotten and our bellies ache. Now she is starting to listen to me!
We had a good supper of fajitas at a Restaurant (Steve and I) thanks to Grammy taking the kids for a few hours. It was yummy. I felt so gross and full. Man do they ever give you a lot of food. I was FULL really full after one and Steve just shook his head at me so I crammed in another half of a fajita. Gag. I am not listening to him again. I know he can out-eat me and that is fine, it is not a contest. I suggested a walk afterwards because ug that is just so gross being that full.
We walked around Chinook mall and stopped in at Old Navy. OH. MY. GOSH.
The sale!!! I saw pants for $.97 yes that is right and then %50 off of that. The sale is huge and we are for sure going back today. I don't care if I have to cram my ass into kid's pants, $.50 for pants is cheap.
Our tree is scheduled to go up today. I told the kids that as soon as daddy's birthday was over then we could put up the tree. Well, they know it's over now, so up it goes.

Went to Costco...

Well now I have enough conditioner to last me about two weeks or so.
Stamps to last a few days.
And a few other odds and ends.
The samples are the best part, but I must say that those sample ladies are PUSHY!

Emma last night at the dinner table....

"I keep forgeting to ask my teacher if she sleeps. Can you help me remember to ask her tomorrow?"

Tuesday, November 07, 2006

I know people shake their finger and me and say "tisk tisk"..

But really, I must stay busy because if I don't, I will go crazy. Plain and simple.
I feel quite accomplished with myself actually that I moved a love seat upstairs all by myself. Right after I did it though Steve called me and told me I had to walk and get Emma from school-groan. So I walked and then called Steve's mom to come and rescue me. Thank heavens for Mother in laws because there was no way I could have walked home. Dummy that I am. Sometimes I do push it too far. (Except I would have been resting at home had Steve been able to pick up Emma yesterday.)
Today my Christmas card order should be in and I can get busy on those. Not much exertion there.
Yvonne I need to order some more stuff through you so uh could you call me and we can arrange something. I also have another lady in the same shape as me and she is quite excited about you getting us some things. You know.
Kirsten: I am waiting. Looks like I don't have a hernia from moving that couch so we can get together anytime. Hey is your mom getting hungry in the basement? Maybe we could bring her some food....or at least entertain her or something.

10 Degrees my butt!

I think the weather man was wrong this morning when he told me that it was going to be a balmy 10 degrees out. Brrr. It was frosty walking Emma to school this afternoon for 25 minutes in that chilly air.

Sorry for slacking all computer was occupied by someone.
I am on a serious clean out still, trying to get ready for Christmas.
I am shooting for my next pant goal. A six. It may take me a while to get there, but I will do it especially now that I have said it out loud. I am only one size away so....we'll see. I never thought I would be an eight and I made it. Now let's see what else I can accomplish.
By the way Jenn if you are down for Christmas I have some more pants for you.

I am moving furniture by myself this afternoon. That should burn off some calories.

Is anyone else giddy about Christmas? I am buzzing......

An hour...

Oliver has held on to a fistful of his potato chips for an hour waiting for Daddy and Emma to come home so he can share with them. He is the most selfless little guy I have ever met.

Ho Hum...

Steve refuses to have the Christmas stuff out until after his birthday this year. Fine then. At least I have the wreath on the door. I have taken the Halloween stuff downstairs to be packed in a seasonal box so I can find them after the move in May...I will be MORE organized this time!

I got a huge new calendar for my fridge and already it seems to be jammed with stuff. I am such a nerd that I have even sat down and filled out a daily menu plan for the next few months. That way we are not as tempted to go across the street to McD's.

Most of our shopping is done, we just have a few odds and ends to finish up which I have been nagging Steve about. However I think I may just have to do them myself if I want them done by Christmas of this year....

Last night as Emma was getting ready for bed she said "Here Mom feel my armpits! They are so sweaty-just like Uncle Michael's. He's your brother right? Ya well we sweat the same, me and him but not you 'cause you don't sweat."

I think they are born with the "Whine" gene...

So Oliver has a cold. Which I knew was coming because when we were at that glorious doctor's appointment the other day, she checked him from stem to stern and noticed that his lymph nodes(sp) were a bit swollen. I told her that Steve had a cough and I had a sore throat so it was only a matter of time before Oliver got it with his low immune system. Yesterday he awoke and cried all day thinking he would surely die.
"My nose my nose! Wipe my nose! Ah ah ah my eyes my eyes wipe my eyes!" He would say.
The more I tried to tell his that crying made it worse, the more he would cry. By night he was croupy. However he sounds better today. Knock wood. His guts may be fine but we still have a fragile immune system. I am sure he will be fine and is just over exaggerating-although I can't imagine how he learned to do that.
At least now he will bring me the tissues when he needs his nose wiped. Gosh.

Just in case you couldn't see the other picture well enough

Here is Steve in all his glory. Posted by Picasa

It's always fun when there is candy

We had a great time last night. Went out with some friends and their beautiful girl Helena.
One man thought Emma was a dog and she shouted "Hey Mooooom! Did you hear that? He thought I was a dog! A dog!"
Most people grabbed a clue when they saw Steve and thought she was a reindeer with and elf. Posted by Picasa

This is Emma's kindergarten teacher...

I find it funny that Steve didn't mention how cute she was when he went to the parent night without me. Hmmmmm.

*She was a paintbrush today. So cute I could barf. Posted by Picasa

Does anyone recognize the mime?

 Posted by Picasa

This is NOT a costume

I overheard a lady today say "Oh look a cowgirl!" when they saw this woman at Emma's school. Nope, she always looks like that. Posted by Picasa

Toymakers are twisted...

Oliver got this great guy-William Turner-for his birthday. Perhaps you know of the movie Pirates Of the Carribean? Well this is a character in case you didn't know. The figurine came with instructions "Squeeze Will's legs together for a sword jabbing attck!"

I am wondering are these actually toys? Or perhaps just a laugh for mum?
Every time I see this fellow I can't help but get the giggles and blush....

Happy Halloween!

Why are the fun days always sooooo long? We got up at 5am today and now it's only 8am. The fun part seems so far away. The kids are antsy to get into their costumes and and and for goodness sakes I want some candy!

Been purging old toys the past few days. Getting ready for the Christmas season. I love getting rid of stuff. Cleansing. Emma has no trouble doing it either, she in fact helps-which is great.

Lately I have been itchin' to cut ALL my hair off. So tempted.....
It is nice to have long hair, but I get trapped in the night if someone rolls on me. The list goes on. I think it may be time for a change, but I am trying to be realistic-would I actually 'do' short hair?

Monday, October 30, 2006

This day has taken so long to come....

Today we made a trip up to the new Children's Hospital for one of Oliver's appointments. It was for a visit with the GI team (the gut guys). They measured him and poked around his belly and chatted for a long while about what he eats these days. He is totally off his meds for reflux now and is pretty much eating normal solid food along with the rest of us. Big accomplishment! He has gained a kilo since his last appointment and grown 7cm. They were so pleased at his progress and were happy that he was growing steadily enough on his own without extra help that they can close his file. The doctor tried to nicely say that he won't ever be a huge guy because I am not the biggest lady. I don't care what size he is, as long as he is healthy!
Hurray. I thought this day would never come.

Sunday, October 29, 2006

Been thinking....

About gaining forty or sixty pounds. Maybe then I would warm up.

Dark at 5:30pm? What the heck is that?

We rented a movie last night...can't recall which one, so don't ask. No I can't get off my bum and go check, because Steve will steal my place on the computer.
Sheesh. Try and watch a movie with that man. I am sure most of the people in Calgary who have watched movies with Steve will feel my pain. He audibly worked out the movie for 2 hours while we watched it. Yes, he talked through the whole thing while trying to figure out what was going to happen next and why this happened and why that happened. He finally got the point when I asked him to turn on the subtitles so I could "hear" the movie. Still he is talking about the movie, wondering what happened. Maybe we should only rent animated ones from now on.

*Oliver said today: Mamma I don't like to fall down the stairs.

Friday, October 27, 2006

I am writing this from my own house. At last. The connection is not the greatest, and I had to wait for several hours while it was hooked up and then of course while Steve went on, but here I am.

Well ha ha now I have to get Emma. Will try later.

Oh and why is it that I am still always missing the Downy cycle? Gosh!

How the heck did we get to the end of October already?

Time is going by too quickly. I am cramming cramming cramming all my craft making into the time I have left before Christmas. Yikes. I hate to admit it, but we still have the lovely decorations from Oliver's party all up and about the living room. I am so tired of looking at them, however I have justified not taking them down yet because we have not had Halloween yet, and the decorations are Halloween themed.

I can't wait for trick or treating this year. It is so much fun with kids. I remember going with Margie and family when Oliver was only two weeks old. Good times.

Today was our big day to get our Christmas card photo done. We got all dressed and even brushed our hair and everything, but the picture never happened. The kids were fussy and hot-not a good day. Oh well.

Maybe tomorrow......

Hey also, I ordered internet again. We will hopefully be up and running by the end of the week.

We are all frustrated that I can not upload pictures here, however I do have a friend who has uploaded some pictures of our glorious event to her blog. Go here.
If you scroll way way way down in her blog there is a picture of me at the thanksgiving turkey bowl all bundled up and I am NOT wearing black. Surprise surprise!
In case you all can't figure it out, it was a Halloween themed party for Oliver's party. He loved it. LOVED it. When asked later what his favourite part was, he said "I liked having my friends over. I like the boys a lot. Jacob and Joel. They are my good friends."

Steve starts his new shift tomorrow! Daytime hours. Hurray!!!!!

Thanks for the advice about the ab crunches, but I can't go to pot around here you know!

I did regress a bit by picking up my kids- they are rather light compared to other children, but still heavier than five pounds. Arg! Lots of things are heavier than 5 pounds. I do NOT like being limited. Boo hoo. There is my cry baby minute for the day.

I cut four inches off my hair this morning. Can you imagine? Now it comes just to my elbows. So much cleaner. It's funny how much a hair cut can do for you.

I watched Emma do her swimming this morning. Most weeks they just splash and float around and do nothing really to catch my attention. This week I found myself swelling with pride, tears running down my cheeks. She swam the length of the pool and back. Oh my gosh. With a jacket of course, but still that is impressive. I am happy not to have any other job in the world. Getting to see Emma wave from the pool or Oliver blow bubbles or hug me in the morning or whatever, that does it for me. I know it sounds corny, but I am so blessed to be able to watch my kids grow up-not many parents get that these days. do kids know that if they drag their coats on the floor they won't have to carry them anymore?

Steve worked SO hard putting up streamers last night and balloons while I sat on the couch being lame ( wa). The kids were SO excited this morning. Oliver is so excited about his party and all his friends coming over. He has no idea that he gets presents, I don't want that to be a focus for him, but he knows he has games and a pinata to smash (that daddy will hold). Did I mention anything about our pinata? Oh ya we are having one. It will be so much fun. OK I am a nerd.

Oh ya...did I mention that Steve is dressing up like an elf?

Saturday, October 07, 2006

Oh happy days

This is the first time in years that I don't have a bloated belly look to me. Well, maybe a bit from not pooping, but no swollen crampy abdomen from girly probs. It's great. I am getting more and more mobile every day. The pinata for Oliver's birthday is almost done. Honestly I know I have mental issues planning this right after my surgery, but what fun we will all have!
I wish I could upload the picture of Oliver's cowboy costume that I made. Oh my gosh. Seriously, this will be as fun as Emma's tea party last year!
Emma announced that she loves school now. Hurray! She begs to go every day now, which is nice.
Been watching a LOT of movies lately (some kind soul brought me dinner and movies) and I have been crunching my abs on the couch watching some neat flicks. If I could think of the names right now I would tell you, but alas I suck and my brain keeps misfiring.

Oh well.

Anyways...I better get back to watching my son in the pool. (He is in lessons right now)

Good as new!

Got home on Sunday and what a ride it was. Yeehaw. Allergic to the pain meds and crazy nurses who didn't know my name, a room-mate who kept taking my phone and on the list goes.
However, I feel so much better now than I have in years. I am a little slow (but haven't I always been?) and sleepy, but getting by with the help of Steve. He is miraculously doing laundry and dishes and cooking. I should get ill more often!

The kids are being good too. Emma and Oliver are playing so quietly these days. I am sure this will get old fast though and they will be back to normal fighting soon.

*Margie sorry about the other night. I missed your call back to me by a little bit and then I didn't want to wake you in case you had gone to bed. Uh....I did not expect to be such a baby on the phone. Sorry! :)
Hope you had a lovely romantic evening with underwear folding going on.

*Kirsten that is sweet of you to remember Oliver's party. Yes, we are having one, but Steve is having fits about the number of kids. He only wanted me to invited one friend for Oliver, but how can I do that. Even now I am finding it hard to go to church and look people in the eye and know that they are not coming. But truly we have a VERY small house and can not invite the world. I just hate leaving people out because I don't like to hurt feelings.

Did I mention how constipated I am?

Thursday, September 21, 2006

I need a snack...

Those are Oliver's favorite words these days. He says them about every five minutes. He is loving every minute of Emma being at school.
Emma not so much. I try really hard to keep quiet about all the fun partying I have while she is away, but alas she figures it out.
She drags her feet every day going into the classroom.
Finally she is meeting friends. GOSH! It seemed to take forever.
The moms which I was totally afraid of meeting before school started are now quite chummy with me and we chat every day. Hurray, people like me, they really really like me. :)
Truly I think Emma is bored in class because her teacher has mentioned that Emma tends to wander off and not listen....well I would too if I was bored!
Anyhow we have a meeting tomorrow one on one with the teacher for more info.
On another note, I caved and bought some dawgs (shoes). My feet were hurting enough to warrant nurse shoes so I bought some nice bringht pink ones and now everyone will see me coming. Of course I got them on sale and used a coupon and a store credit so only paid $10 instead of $40.
Oliver's birthday is coming.....oh my.
Maybe I will blog again by then although I will be quite the invalid for a while. Next week is my surgery. Grammy Char if you read this can you call us because Steve has changed his holidays and you do not need to rush home now. You are able to stay for all your closing banquets and stuff and come at a leisurely pace when all your things are finished out there. Please call.

They have increased the time at the library for the computers from 1 hour to an hour and 20 minutes. Gee how generous.
Renewed our YMCA memberships yesterday and I am so excited that we have the same discounted deal again.
We had a great day last Friday with Miranda and family. Her new baby Zoe is ADORABLE. The thighs. Oh my gosh. I could eat them. I love getting together with old it!
Oliver is now on my lap wanting me to read to him. The guy beside me is looking at some questionable material......
It's a good thing that Emma is doing Kindergarden in the afternoons because it took us FOUR hours to get ready and come out here today. Does anyone else get that way?
Plus one of my latest frustrations is the downy cycle. You know...missing it. Every time. Every. Single. TIME.
Yes I could get one of those ball things to put in the wash, but I always forget about that when I am at the grocery mart. Useless, I am.
Ho hum.
I sure wish I could show you some pics of my latest creations. I have loads of fabric, so I figured I would make Emma some clothes for school. I am having so much fun.
I am quite annoyed at the no-peanut rule for schools. It's not just peanut butter, but trail mix and some granola bars etc. Yes I know someone (like Jordan T) could die, but um could they not just come to school in a plastic bubble or something so the rest of us NORMAL people can carry on as usual?
Oh ya, and we are staying in Calgary.
Oh my nerves, the kids these days...I can not tell if they are boys or girls! What the heck?

*Yvonne: I will have you know that I laughed so hard at your post. Out loud in fact. Wench. Ha ha. Yes People turned and looked at me, but that was funny. Oh gosh. Chris-you are the man.

Monday, August 14, 2006

Some may say I am a tad obsessive...

But I say I like to be prepared. Oliver's birthday is in October...I have started getting ready now for it. That way I am not overwhelmed when the time comes. It will be two weeks after my surgery so if I can get stuff done before hand then it will make things much easier.
My brother laughs at me because I have already started to purge stuff and go through things to pack for our next move. Seriously I can not wait. We will be moving into a great neighborhood and the kids will be able to go to school for all their school years there...hopefully. Ha ha. We tend to have the nomadic gypsy bug so truly you never know, but it looks as though right now we should be able to stay for a long time in one place. Nice.
The only drawback is that ho hum, there really is no area for my craft stuff. I shall live. The dining room is looking very enticing as a crafting area. At least it won't be in a creepy basment with only one outlet like our current place.
Oliver is not having surgery on his eyes for now. I cancelled it. They didn't return my messages for the longest time and with that I finally decided that enough was enough and he can live with lazy eyes. I am so sick of taking him to the friggin' doctor all the time. He has gone enough.
Emma is done her camps now and loved them. She completed two levels of swimming and is starting up swimming in the fall, as is Oliver.
Kirsten if you want to get together....I am up for it.
I called you, but you were away.
I imagine we will be getting internet within the year or so...someone mentioned that we will have to do homework with Emma and need the internet to help with it. Hmmm.
Oliver is begging me to let him go to school with sister. He walks around all day with a pink sparkly backpack on. Poor thing. He is so good though when he plays all by himself. I sure enjoyed the time with him when Emma was at camp.
Margie, if you are still poking around, I miss you.
Miranda I can't wait to visit with you this weekend. It is lonely down here.

Always something new

Yes indeed. Never a dull moment here. We are are exploring new options of life for the future, whatever that may be. For one thing it does involve another move for us in May. Ha ha ha. I am purging and packing already because Christmas sort of takes up a lot of time and then Emma's birthday and then and then....
I know all of you in Ontario are hoping we are heading that way, but that is not the case.
The heat wave is certainly keeping my interests out of that province for good. YUCK!
I was so cold I had the heat on in my new van this morning! Lovely.

My hands seem to have retained all berry colour and now have a permanent purple-ish hue to them.
Grammy went out picking with my yesterday and we gathered loads of berries and apples. MMMM.

School starts soon.

Holy crap.

Friday, July 21, 2006

MMMM fresh berries!

We all went out this morning picking berries on Steve's Aunt Diana's farm. I can not wait to make jam and pies and syrup. We will go back and clean out what we left behind again next week.
Where did July go? The summer is whizzing past and I have so much to do before school starts...
Well, actually before my surgery lays me down for six straight weeks.
Emma is messing up my perfect plans because she keeps growing out of all her clothes and every time I think I have things under wraps, she up and grows again. That girl!
Oliver....he is FINALLY growing too and for the first time in two years I have had to buy pants for him. He will still be fine to wear the same shorts though for next year.
This is the most drab and boring post ever.
Our van is a real treat to have with its glorious air conditioning-especially during this heat wave.
Ug. When will it friggin snow?
My skin is now longer lily white and it shockingly has freckles! What is a girl to do? There are worse things I suppose.
I got some free Thinsations in the mail and another free box of cereal for all of you who care to hate me for getting free stuff.
Well, my legs are alseep....and I better go watch the kids swim for a bit before they get out of the pool.

Friday, July 07, 2006

What a waste of time...

All that effort and planning etc and they did not even do his eye surgery! He has a cold and has had surgeries before with a cold, but because this was a long one they decided not to do it. Arg. Oh well, I guess it is better to be safe. Poor little guy is tuckered out from being up so early though. He slept all afternoon on the couch while I tried to doze. Anyways that's all I have for today. Emma has grown by leeps and bounds in personality by being at camp this week. So strange how that happens.
We may head out to the Stampede this weekend as Strawberry Shortcake is there...yeehaw.

Tuesday, July 04, 2006

I only have five minutes today

What a day. I honestly didn't know what to do with Oliver today as today was Emma's first day at camp. Oliver howled for her all day long. Literally. Poor duck, he loves her so. Now we are at the library waiting for camp to be over and I bumped into an old friend Mrs. H.
We chatted for a while, which was refreshing-it always is nice to run into old chums isn't it. Anywho...Oliver has his eye surgery this Friday and I am off and running.

Krista: I am the one sitting down in the pictures from the barbeque (#016)

Had a FUN week with my retrieval of the mail. You would absolutely not believe it. I can barely believe it. I will save the best for last though. It is so exciting. Today I received TWO free 8 packs of old south juice. Yay! Yesterday it was $12 worth of coupons for crayola because if you recall waaaaay back Emma put the crayons in the dryer and I sent them a photo. (I also got $10 from Old Navy from this disaster)
The other day I got a cook book for Uncle Ben's and a coupon for $2 plus $2.50 for Minute Maid.
The grande Finale....Oh my goodness. Ready?
Okay. I wrote to Mattel and told them about Oliver loving Polly Pocket dolls and playing with them non-stop. I also told them how I needed to find a boy one because my brother has issues with boys playing with girly stuff. THEY SENT ME A BOY POLLY POCKET!!!!!!!!!!!!
All in all, a good week.

Tuesday, June 20, 2006

Never a dull moment

This morning I was out taking the kids to the library and the car died three times on the way there. It is not a far drive but boy was I nervous after the first time it crapped out on my. I refused to be stranded on the highway. I remember what Steve had done before to nudge it along and I followed that. we were not in our new van our I would have been so mad. The van was out getting an inspection done for insurance...paperwork is always such a pain in the rear. The car we are using is Steve's mom's. Don't know what is up. It does have a pretty sweet horn though. Buicks usually do, don't they?

Now the kids and I are hanging out at Grammy's house without Grammy again. It's nice to have a change of scenery.

Emma is still in her nightgown-sort of.
I made her a nightie yesterday and she doen't want to take it off. She thinks it is a dress. It does look like a dress, but that is not what I made it for. Oh well, no one else will know if they look at her.

If you have not seen pics of our kids, go to and have a look at the BBQ pics. Oliver is giving his winky face. Emma is sitting with Julia in one picture. They are like two peas in a pod. I am glad she has a good chum.

Thursday, June 15, 2006

I woke up this morning to an entire bag full of Tim Horton's peanut butter cookies sitting on the stove waiting for me. Steve had gone out on his way home from work to get change for me (for parking at the doctor) and he decided to get me a treat. Love him.

How long was I doin' it?

Driving with my signal on. Gosh! I noticed when I was almost home. Oh well. Nobody honked or gave me the finger.

The kids and I are just hanging out at Grammy's house today even though she is not here. Oliver is on my lap and Emma is in a coma in front of the tv. We don't have cable at our place and all these kid shows are too much for her.

I was at the doctor this morning. You know...the kind of doctors that men don't go to.
Apparently I need a hysterectomy.
I kind of thought it might be coming, but I honestly didn't think it would really truly come to fruition.
I actually have to stay overnight in the hospital and everything. The recovery is about 6 weeks.
I am having fun reading in my little take home surgery booklet that they gave me.
"Your nurse will listen with a stethoscope for bowel sounds." Well is she in for a treat.

Emma goes to her daycamps in two weeks and is so excited. She asks me every day if it's time to go yet.

Thank you for the Gobstoppers 'K'!! We miss you guys.

Lately I have received free in the mail: Two free boxes of cereal, two free candy bars, and two free bags of Smiley faces.

Happy Father's Day this weekend to all you fathers out there.

Kirsten if you want to go out sometime, we should have the van by next week and have three extra room for friends.

Is it June? Sheesh...

Sorry. I have been trying to get on the computer, but the last few trips here have not worked out very well. Maybe this one will be better. The latest news is that our car has totally bit the dust. Completely. We will eat macaroni every day now until we pay off our new van. No I do not exaggerate. Never.
Oliver -oh happy day - is still maintaining a healthy diet eating us out of house and home.
I had so much to say...but now my thoughts are all gone because I am forced to write. Maybe I will go visit blogs for a while.

Some days are just so much fun.

The other day Emma threw her arms around me and said " Mommy I really really love you and I don't hate you at all."

Uh, okay. No reason for the comment, I thought she was up to something but I guess not.

Yesterday we (the kids and I and grammy) went to the Dollarama store and Oliver kept saying how he wanted to have a barbeque. I Could not figure out what he wanted. I had mentioned that I had a list and one thing on the list was a new BBQ scrubby brush because our old one wore out. So I figured that Oliver must have wanted something to do with that. We wandered all over the store and still he kept talking about wanting a BBQ.
Finally we walked down the last aisle and came upon the Barbie dolls.

Oliver was elated. "A Barbeque! A barbeque!!!!! Mommy I want that!"

The boy eats.

We are rejoicing. I tossed Oliver's bottles in the dumpster and told him a lie about how the Zebras from the zoo came and took them. I may go to hell for telling a lie, but it's worth it. He is finally eating real food now-non stop. He was weighed on Friday and was 11 kilos and on Monday he was 11.4 kilos. Pretty good. He even tried raisins and zuchini bread for the first time ever! Oh, and yogurt. And cheerios. And.....oh my gosh I hope this keeps up.

Eve, I haven't a clue about the link. I need to fix that, but don't have the time. Call me I ran out of minutes on my card.

I just saw the hottest thing in bike shorts walk by...

I now want to poke my eyes out. Picture my dad wearing spandex and you will have seen what I saw. I am back at the library again. This is starting to become an addiction. Emma is lurking by some kids trying to steal their computer. Funny. I think the addiction runs in the family.

I specifially came in here to tell you all something fun, but now I was so distracted that I forgot. Oh well.

The girls from my exercise class are all getting together tonight for dinner. I can't wait.

Bav, the glorious thing about the day camps is the fact that I just bring Emma and pick her up at when it's done. That's all. Well, and pack her lunch and stuff...which of course we all know that I am planning the menu for already.

I guess I'll go for now because I can't recall what I came on here for.
Have a good weekend.

All 4 of us are. We joined the YMCA and are now members. There is so much to do there without even joining classes. I think we may just have to move in.

I am at the library again, this time with the kids and I am smelling burnt toast. Yuck.

Sorry this is so short, but the kids are wild today. Gotta run. Although I must tell you of the SWEET deal I got for Emma's swimming day camps. $130 for four weeks of FULL days. Hurray.
I'm out for now. McD's is calling me.

Just a quickie

My kids are at home with my poor tired husband who has been working overtime like a dog. It feels weird to be at the library without them.

This morning I checked the mail about a thousand times before it came. When it finally did come, the postman was standing on my step. He scared the bejeepers out of me. Funny fellow.

Steve- the romantic that he is- sent me a little something in the mail. Awwwww.

The neighbors are being raided for mice. Eww. Gross. I hope the mice don't come seeking refuge in our house. Yuck.

We had a good Easter. Brunch was great over at K's mother in law's house. The kids sure loved having other children to play with.

On Friday we went to the zoo. Fun times. I saw a lady from my mom's and tots group. Just as I was saying hello to her, the fellow she was with had a girl on his shoulders barf all over him. Gross. I said goodbye quickly, turned back to look and saw the girl barf a second time all over the man. Yuck. We saw more puke at the zoo than we have seen in a long time. They were giving out the candy and wagon wheels like you would not believe. Ug!

Well, I am off and running.
Have a good week.

Thursday, April 13, 2006

Oh beans....

I am so sorry I ate them. What was I thinking? I should know better. I have enough trouble without all that added....goodness.

He will eat mud and soap, but not real food-why is that?

Oliver has taken up eating an odd assortment off foods these days, including those mentioned in my title. Should I really stop him? There must be some goodness in it...right? Soap has fat in it so that is something. Whatever, if it doesn't kill us it makes us stronger right. Right.

Kirsten:I would LOVE to get together, and you have often said to call you, but I DON"T HAVE YOUR NUMBER!!!!

My exercise class is so fun. A year ago or so I would have been to shy to join any type of class with fit perky women in it. But all of a sudden I am okay and loving it up. I had so much fun at our first class I can hardly wait until next tuesday. There was even a woman there who looked as though she was in her 60's or so. We are learning a dance routine together and phew what a workout, but SO FUN!!!

I have been looked down upon as of late and had a few nasty things said about me. I suppose people will always talk. Perhaps they are just jealous. Who truly knows the drive behind the words. I know that we are not in high school anymore and this kind of backbiting is silly and uncalled for. If people have a problem with me enjoying my life for a change that is just too bad.
I deserve to be happy and have fun.

Margie- I called you on Tuesday, but you were out. Sorry to have missed you.

Eve-I call you too you stinker. Where was everyone? Having a party without me?

It's been so long I almost forgot my password

The kids have already been spoken to about running in the library. What can I say? I have wild hooligans.
Emma is now fighting over the computer with another kid and Oliver is charming a little girl.
I saw Kirsten today as I was coming to the library, it was refreshing to chat with another mum for a minute. She is so great. She laughed when I told her that Old Navy sent me a gift card for my ruined clothes.
I didn't tell her about the one that Frito Lay sent me...ha ha!
A couple of us from the church have joined an exercise class together-it should be fun. That's all I will say about that.
I wish I could show you all the Easter dress I made for Emma, it actually turned out better than I thought. I love to create. Plus I have sold a few nursing bibs in the past few weeks. Fun.

Oliver gets eye surgery July 7th for his wandering eye. That will be a joy.
Oh and the biggest news of all is that I went swimming! In a bathing public. It is true. I even spoke to strangers. What is happening to me?

Does everyone else hate the time change as much as I do? My kids have been up at 6am every day since. This sucks. Oh well. I suppose things will sort themselves out.

The kids and I have been going to moms and tots time every wednesday. It's alright. My kids just play by themselves. We need to get out more.

We are heading down to the zoo for Easter fun this year. There will be all sorts of activities for the fam. Especially chocolate stuff. I will be sure to stock up.

Well, that's all I know for now. I am running out of time and I want to check up on blogs.

Fun times at the mall....

We are making the transition from double stroller to single, and it sucks because we only have a little measly umbrella stroller. You can not cram all your stuff underneath, plus, when your child gets out and everything is hanging on the handles at the back, the whole stroller tips over. Crappy deal. We have thought about getting a wagon, but it won't fit into our tiny little car and really, who walks around the mall with a wagon?

The kids pretty much ran wild around the mall this afternoon. It was fun though because we found "Famous Seamus" from Shine FM and he gave us some pretty great prizes. Yay. A phone card, some cards for tea at Second Cup, and a $10 gift certificate for a wrap store. Yum!

Monday, March 20, 2006

Oh ya...

I forgot to mention that I managed to get a LOT of the crayon out with a new stain remover. STAINS R OUT. You can get it at Home Depot. Amazing stuff. Even old set in stains.

I am at the library and typing like a madwoman. I only have 15 minutes left on my time limit. Make that 14. Some kid is distracting me by howling out all his concerns for the day right in my ear (no, it is not my son).
I am quite enjoying the library as it offers so many things I forget about. Free trials of CD's and at some branches we have found dvds.
My amazing husband already has our taxes done for the year-can you believe it? Yay! Oh crap 11 minutes left.....
Um...the pressure to blog something whitty is killing me here, but I am so thankful that you are all hanging in there and keep coming around. I have to admit, I debated stopping altogether, but I feel too bad about letting the connection go. I love you guys. Well, my time is almost up and I still need to publish. Sorry for such a short entry.

Saturday, March 11, 2006

Well, I replaced the kids clothes for free...

I had credit at some stores and was waiting for a rainy day. Well I shopped and got most of their clothes between 30-70% off. Thank goodness for that. I have found a stain remover that is lightening the we will see over time if it takes them all out.
I replaced Steve and my clothes with the new JOE brand from superstore. They are actually not bad. Their clothes used to suck, but not anymore. I got some great new yoga pants that replaced my gigumbus old ones-much more comfortable.
Things have gone through my washer and dryer before and I have always managed to get the damage undone. Chapstick, gum, pens, pencil crayons etc.
I did not have to spend a fortune on new clothes, but I did alright. It was actually a blessing (somewhat) because I needed smaller clothes anyways.

We may be going naked soon...

Kids! I went about my day today doing normal stuff like cleaning and cooking and I started my laundry around 9am to find a doozy of a mess. Emma had been playing with the dryer and her crayons a few days ago. Oh the mess it created. $200 worth of Old Navy clothes plus another $100 worth of odds and sods.
I spent $25 on cleaning products at Home Depot today only to find out that they don't work. However I did get a free newspaper.
I don't even want to try to clean the inside of my dryer. I am just ill.
When I showed Emma all the clothes that were ruined she said "Ya, I put crayons in the dryer. He he he. Those clothes are a mess."
Gee thanks Emma.

Finally I am back for a minute...

I know how annoying it is to click into a blog and find that the blogger has not updated in a l-o-n-g time. Sorry about that. I am still suffering with this damn tooth, but I am alive.

I have so much to blog and not enough time to do it.

The kids and I were at the hospital the other day (just routine stuff for Oliver) and we pulled into the parking lot, I told Emma the lot was full and we might have to park far away on the street. She said "Don't worry, Jesus will find us a parking spot."
We found a spot and Emma started to pray right away. "Thank you Jesus...!"

We were out today and got Emma's ears pierced. Lovely. She was a gem and cried for a moment and now is still milking it. Kids hey.

Got some great stuff in the mail last week. A free lunch at Moxies because I wrote and told them how gross thier washrooms were one day when Steve and I went on a date.
I also got two free coupons for Michelinas entrees. Plus a CASE of free KoolAid eletrolite drink. Fun times. I ended up saving $20.00 on my grocery bill.
Anyways...I am going to go check up on blogs now.

Tuesday, February 28, 2006

Had a tooth infection last week and have never felt pain like that before. I truly believe childbirth was easier. Anyways infection is gone now and today they pulled the nasty villian from my mouth. Hopefully this is the last for a while. Getting old is wonderful isn't it?
Ahhh the happy couple. They should be back home in Ottawa by now heading back to work. Boooo! Miss you already guys. The day was fabulous.

Pics...I hope they happen

Our camera died from battery failure last night. Yes I know we have said something about getting new batteries before, but we just never got around to it.
Ahh it was a blessed event last night. I was frozen, but it was all good.
The kids are wild this morning and fighting as usual. What a great way to wake up.
I lost all my jewels halfway through the night-so if you went home and little sparkly jewel things were stuck to you, I am sorry. They were between my cleavage and just didn't hold up. Oh well.
What a fun night. I have not had fun like that (without know) in a long time.
It was also great to catch up with old friends again too.

*Alison sorry about missing your calls. I think I was getting waxed when you called. I will try to call you back this week.

Saturday, February 25, 2006

"K" was so beautiful this morning as she spoke her vows to her beloved. I am off this evening to party it up at the reception. Woo hoo! Everyone sure cleans up good, it's amazing how good those boys look. Mmmm!
My mother in law almost flashed the world her goods before we went to the church, but I caught her just in time to tell her that her PANTS WERE TOTALLY SEE THROUGH!!!! That would have been a funny one, but I am too nice to not tell her.
Anyways, off to have some fun.

Wednesday, February 22, 2006 I am at the library and the kids are running wild. I am sure the people here can't wait until we go home.

Last night Emma was getting ready for bed, and by that I mean she was running around naked grabbing her nipples. I didn't want to make a big deal about it, so I just casually asked her why she was touching herself there. Her answer: "I am measuring."

Well alright then.

I will have to try that...wonder what my measurements are.

Saturday, February 18, 2006

I have been trying to post for hours now. This sucks. Oh well. Sorry. Can't stay on long because I keep getting kicked off. We need to do something else because we have yet to make a trip to the library and I am not paying $50 a month for this crap service.

Thursday, February 16, 2006

Checking in

Glad I am missed. I have so much to say and not enough time to say it in. I nearly died today when I got home after running around all day to find that my husband had made supper, washed both bathrooms, tidied the bedroom, put my jammies on my pillow etc etc etc. I am in heaven. I keep thinking I am in another world. I like it, and don't want it to end. This is heaven.
Had a OB doctor's visit today. Yum. Lovely. She clipped the wires on my IUD and said everything was good to go. Uh...I just went to the bathroom and found a wire. Gross. Thought you's enjoy that.
Anyways.....I miss all you folks and am trying to catch up on blogs, but really I am enjoying the break.

Tuesday, February 14, 2006

Look a new post!

Wow. I know. I am online. Let's just hope it holds long enough for me to get this published. Our internet keeps timing out on us which is so frustrating.
Sorry to keep you all hanging.
Andrea yes I do have some poo problems, but it has nothing to do with me being on here or not. But thanks for asking ;)
Steve and I are so agrivated by the whole internet thing that we may just get rid of it all together. BUT I will blog from the library, so don't worry you won't lose me totally.
Frankly I can't wait to get this beast out of my house.
We are actually spending more time together, it's really great. I have come to hate the computer. I do miss the contact though and feel a bit isolated, but I will give that up to be more of a family unit.

School days

Why is it that I still shake in my boots when I see the principal? Yesterday I went with both kids to the school by our house to register Emma for kindergarten. The school smells like a school. Remember? That...smell?
The principal was sternly talking to some rowdy boys in the office when we were there. Gosh I don't ever want to come in for my kid's disturbances. He was on a real power trip.
I filled out a bajillion papers and proceeded to leave with both kids when Oliver said "Mom, you didn't put my name down."
How did he know?
I told him his turn was next time.
On the way home Emma asked if I could drop her and Oliver off and if I could wake up Steve so he could watch them. Then she said to me that I should go straight to the store and buy her a lunch bag.
Where does she come up with this stuff?
She doesn't realize how far away September 5 is.
For me it comes too quickly.

I don't care if it's true....lie to me

Tell me I have nice perky boobs. Sometimes Steve is just a little too honest.

Monday, February 06, 2006

Fun times. Check out Steve's blog for what I did today. We had a scheduled doctor's visit and it turned sour when we had to go for x-rays. They routinely asked how his poops were and I told them he was having some troubles and that he was producing stuff the size of my foot. They didn't like that. Especially with his history of not eating. So off we went to take a picture of his belly. Yup lots of poop in there. So we have some yummy medicine for him and everything will be right as rain soon. Thank heavens I do not have to meddle with enimas! They threatened it, but I promised I would work and work and work with him. Sheesh, like I don't do enough already.
Emma was there with us too during the visit and she was playing at "Emily's Garden"-a service provided by the hospital- while we saw the doctors. In the midst of talking to them, the lady from Emily's Garden came and dropped Emma (full of boundless energy) back to me. We were not even done our appointment yet! Rude. Plus we still had to go get x-rays and come back for the results. Arg! Oh some women can be such bitches.
I lived through it. We managed to get through the rest of the appointment, the kids had some snacks (thanks to my back pack 'o plenty) and we made it to dance class just in time.
We have all skipped naps today.
Oliver was quite the....ham today during Em's class.
Another mother noted how small he was and yet he spoke so well. She asked how old he was. I told her that he is just over 2.
Her little boy was 17months and close to the same size. The lady thought she was comforting me when she said "Oh that's okay my daughter was small too, she was just under the 25th percentile for most of her check ups"
I smiled.
Did I really want to go into it?
No. But I did anyways.
I said "Yes, well he is not on the chart."
It took her a minute or two to 'get it'.
Then came the questions.
I explained and explained some more.
I told her that Oliver was diagnosed "Failure To Thrive".
She challenged me. "Was he actually diagnosed that?"
Frig. People are so stupid.
Then I felt the need to explain that he has gastric reflux and barfed most of the first part of his life. THEN...She asked me if I breastfed!!!!!
Well, I did both. So there.
I know this is getting long and boring. I will end with a happy note that I got today from our dietician.
She told me I am doing an unbelievable job. Oliver is now up to 23 pounds. That is two whole pounds up from last time we were there two months ago. She told me to keep doing whatever I was doing, because it was great.

Having a good day...

My husband is paying lots of attention to me and I love it.

Feeling...what is the word...thrilled/alive/exhilarated.
Happy Birthday Alison!!!

Saturday, February 04, 2006

Yes I am still unpacking things. Give me a break okay. We have moved HOW MANY times now in the last two years? Too many times. Let me just say that only the basement was left unpacked until now and it was just stuff that..well you know is a pain to deal with.
Shelves to be hung, pictures to put up, books etc. I need shelves before I can really deal with all this stuff. Well I still don't have shelves and being only five feet tall I suck at hanging anything.
So I have been throwing things out and re-organizing for now in our "gym" as Emma calls it.
Almost everything is out of boxes now...except a few odds and ends that just need containment.
We can now see the floor! I should have taken before and after shots, but it was BAD down there, so I did not.
I found a bunch of the kid's summer stuff....sigh. Actually looking forward to summer this year. Oliver will be able to wear all his old shorts due to the fact that he is out of diapers now. Nice.
It also looks like Emma will too, although she was not in diapers last year so why do hers still fit? Weird how that works.
So glad that we made this move. This house is far better than our last. Energy wise we are saving like crazy! This one is better insulated and carpeted (the windows lose heat though which we need to get fixed) but overall we are saving loads this year compared to last. Very good.
Hope you are all having a good weekend!

While we were out...

Yesterday Oliver went to the toilet three times at the emergency place while waiting to be checked on by the doctors. (He swallowed a sequin for those of you who don't read my husband's blog.)
Anyways we were gone from 12pm to 5:30pm and by the time we got home his pants were still DRY! This is pretty good stuff. We usually only go for short trips and don't push him that far, but this was a good test and he proved he could do it.

My latest distraction-The Booby Bib

I made this yesterday morning before all the excitement happened with Oliver. The book is in the picture so you can see how big the bib actually is. (In case you can't figure it out, it's for nursing mothers)
My friend Jenn is having a baby and I thought this would be a fun gift to give her. Plus it's called a Booby Bib-how much better can it get than that? Posted by Picasa

It really works!

Got my first google cheque! Could not believe my eyes. In fact, I almost threw it out because I thought it was junk mail. Glad I opened it first. Thanks for all of your support, and please please keep up the good work;) if you know what I mean.

You can see how happy he is...

Oliver got this shirt in the mail today and it fits pretty well. The package said that it came from Spiderman. Funny, I didn't know that Spiderman lives in Ottawa ;)
Thanks guys! He loves it!!!!!!!!! Now the challenge will be getting him out of it.
Oh ya, what you can't really see very well in the picture is that his feet are off the ground because he won't stop jumping. Such a happy happy little guy. Thank you. Posted by Picasa

The things they come up with...

Oliver was sitting on the toilet going pee and I could see the steam rising from the toilet, but I didn't know if he could or not. We do not have a little cuppy thing on the front of the toilet ring so you can watch everything that goes on-or have a good spray action while in there if you are not careful.
I guess he did see the steam coming out of the toilet because all of a sudden, he piped up and said "Mom, it looks hot."

My new favorite find...

I found these for only $1.27 yesterday at Superstore. What a gem. The kids love 'em and they are cheaper than a Happy Meal. Okay, I like them too....I admit it.

Oliver was up at three this morning. I brought him into my bed and he kicked me for several hours until I couldn't take it anymore. My poor boobs are battered from all that abuse.
Now he is up and cranky. I am drinking coffee trying to perk up a bit.
This morning was amazing though, because Oliver wanted to get out of his pajama shirt and into his new "spiderman" shirt that I bought yesterday for ninety cents. Okay so it's not really spiderman, but it is red and Spiderman has red on him-so we are using our imaginations. Just don't set Oliver straight. Thanks.
Emma has been asking when Santa is do you expain that? I told her that he wouldn't come until after Oliver's birthday. She has no clue how far away that is.

Need. More. Spiderman.

Oliver is infatuated-no, let me refraise that. In love with Spiderman. We all know it. There is no denying it. We have the panties now, the socks, the jammies and even slippers. We have a little tube of chapstick with spiderman on it, and toothpaste. I have not gotten into too much more because well I didn't want this to become out of hand. But now we need some day clothes for him because he refuses to get dressed in anything other than his spiderman jammies.
If only they made spiderman food......

The Eagle has landed...

But I will spare you the details. Standing on the cold basement worked-a little too much.
I am sure this isn't the last time you will hear me blogging this, but I will certainly try to be more careful now. Phew that was horrible.
Anyways....on to better things.
My husband surprised me this morning with a lovely little treat from Tim Horton's. Part of me wanted to bronze the crueller because these moments are so rare, but I have faith that MORE WILL COME ;) I love surprises like that. If there are any men reading this today, let me tell you it is the little things like this that count. Don't worry folks, I am not getting all mushy on you. However, this really made my day and it's only 6:30am.

Got nothing...

Sorry folks. I am constipated and in a lot of pain right now. I have nothing fun or cute to blog about. We saw the movie Crash on the weekend. That was interesting. I sobbed when the little girl was 'shot'.
Emma's new season of dance starts today. Should be fun!
