We're enjoying life...but not in a disillusioned way

Our quality of life is better here, far better.
But perhaps not for the reasons that would improve most people's lives.
We do not have hoards and hoards of money ( we do our best with what we have).
After all these years together, we have come to realize that it is not money (or things) that give us pleasure or happiness.

We are seeing such joy on our children's faces when they play together in the yard or when we go for walks in the alleyway. Even when we are rushing down the alley in the mornings, Oliver and Emma stop and smell the weeds and flowers and call out the names of the ones they know. "There is a dandelion mom!"
Yesterday we saw a baby robin and Oliver thought he was in heaven, it was that delightful for him. I couldn't bare to tell him that it's mother had kicked it out of it's nest and the poor baby bird would probably die...

We have made wonderful new friends and continue to make them weekly. I adore the moms at the school and every time I talk to them it seems like there is a new piece to unfurl.

There are some harsh realities, like the teens who frequent our alley. Yikes!
The poverty in this city is astounding. And so on...

Yet people still make do and carry on.
This is what I love. The community, the care, the support.

We have made a few changes in our lives that make us feel more a part of the community (and good about doing our part for the environment).
Steve has been taking his bike to work everyday and I have been walking the kids to school. The only time we use the van now is for church and groceries and maybe one other time per week.

We have lowered our grocery bill to $50 per week. This has been so much fun because I take it on as a challenge and try to come in under - so far so good:)

Pretty soon you will start seeing reviews of books on here.
This is something else new. I joined a book review site and
love it (free books).

I am not quite sure where Emma gets her fashion sense from, but some days I am left amazed.

This morning she came downstairs "dressed".
She had on white socks pulled up to her knees, pink underpants, a long pink and orange floral printed top and that is it.
"Umm Emma? Where are your pants?" I asked her.

"What pants?" she said.

"The ones you should be wearing to school today. Did you know that you need to wear pants? Or did you forget? Perhaps you thought you already thought you had pants on?"

Blank stare.

"Emma?" I said.

"Mom, I am wearing this." She said.

Oh my:) It's going to be a long day. LOL.
