Dirty God Jesus in the Trenches By Johnnie Moore Published by Thomas Nelson

Book Description In Dirty God: Jesus in the Trenches, Johnnie Moore draws on both Scripture and his extensive experience with other cultures and religions to show how the God of the Bible is unique in his willingness to be near us in all of our messiness. Moore outlines the central importance of the doctrine of grace while introducing readers to a humble and human Jesus who reaches out to us at our worst and pulls us up to our best. Grace, Moore argues, is something that is both gotten and given, and the two-part structure of the book allows readers to explore both of these dynamics. By offering hope rather than condemnation and showing the practical applications of grace in today’s world, Dirty God will appeal to both the committed Christian and the spiritual seeker looking for a more authentic faith. Challenging and engaging, Dirty God is sure to establish Johnnie Moore as an emerging voice for Millennial and Gen-X evangelicals for years to come. Cover Images My thoughts: Unparalleled writing. This book details how entrenched Jesus is in the mundane, marginalized and morose. Challenging, and beautiful at evoking a passion within to not just sit, but DO! I love the inspirational power of this book. Not a guilt laden walk, but an eye opening view into the dirt and filth of life that we so often pass by. Grace More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine By Max Lucado Published by Thomas Nelson

Book Description Grace. We talk as though we understand the term. The bank gives us a grace period. The seedy politician falls from grace. Musicians speak of a grace note. We describe an actress as gracious, a dancer as graceful. We use the word for hospitals, baby girls, kings, and premeal prayers. We talk as though we know what grace means. But do we really understand it? Have we settled for wimpy grace? It politely occupies a phrase in a hymn, fits nicely on a church sign. Never causes trouble or demands a response. When asked, “Do you believe in grace?” who could say no? Max Lucado asks a deeper question: Have you been changed by grace? Shaped by grace? Strengthened by grace? Emboldened by grace? Softened by grace? Snatched by the nape of your neck and shaken to your senses by grace? God’s grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide, turn-you-upside-downness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. From insecure to God secure. From regret riddled to better-because-of-it. From afraid to die to ready to fly. Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off. Let’s make certain grace gets you. My thoughts: This book is phenomenal. At first I felt rather apprehensive...thinking that I would feel guilty like so many other times. I felt that yet another person was going to wag their tongue and shake their fist at me and tell me how screwed up I am. But this book is about Grace!! Truly remarkable how Grace can wash over us and set us free from our entrapment. I felt uplifted, strengthened, loved and encouraged by this book. Don't get me wrong, there is a whole lotta truth that Max Lucado shakes out, but it is delivered in such a way that is no condemning. Beautifully written and lovingly thought out. I would read this over and over. Recommend it to many. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com book review bloggers program.
